The Importance of Fruit & Vegetables

Just Say Yes…to Fruits and Vegetables! An educational nutrition program that promotes healthy eating, exercise, and overall wellness. JSY makes it easier to make healthy choices in a hectic life. Provides education, recipes, and workshops to help the community focus on what they are eating and doing.

Objectives State the daily recommended cups of fruits and vegetables. Name at least two benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables. Describe new ways to increase daily fruit and vegetable intake.

Why Eat Fruits and Vegetables? They taste great! Full of vitamins and minerals. Most are fat free or very low in fat. Helps prevent certain diseases.

Servings = 5 Cups per Day Fruit 2 Cups Vegetables 3 Cups *Try to eat 5 different colors of fruit and vegetables daily!*

Eat a Rainbow It is important to incorporate many different fruits and vegetables every day. Allows for different vitamins and minerals to be absorbed into the body. Each color fruit or vegetable has different vitamins or minerals in it.

Eat a Rainbow Activity What is your favorite fruit or vegetable? Write it down on your sticky note and hand back in. Which colors don’t have many stickies? What fruits and vegetables can we add? Take Away: Are there any new fruits or vegetables anyone is going to try this week?
