Presentation Name Course Name Unit # – Lesson #.# – Lesson Name What happens to bottles, cans, and newspapers when you drop them off at the recycling center? They go to a: Sorting facility Processing plant Manufacturing plant Consumer (to buy as a different product)

Recycling System Collecting/Sorting – Each item that can be recycled is collected into one location and then sorted according to type. Non-recyclable items are removed.

Recycling System Processing – Recyclable items go through several processes to clean, chop, reduce, and reshape into a raw material. Raw Material – The basic material something is made from

Recycling System Manufacturing – the raw material is then created into something new from the recycled material.

Recycling System Selling/Purchasing/Reusing – The final step is to take the new recycled product to the consumers and public for purchase or reuse.

Recycling – Closed Loop System Presentation Name Course Name Unit # – Lesson #.# – Lesson Name Recycling – Closed Loop System If consumers buy the product, the feedback is good. Since recycling is good for the environment, the feedback to the earth is always good.

Recycling Paper Process Input Output Feedback Used paper Garbage Presentation Name Course Name Unit # – Lesson #.# – Lesson Name Recycling Paper Process Separated, packed into bales Shredded and soaked in a hydra-pulper Chopped, stirred, and drained Chemicals and dyes are added Poured onto a mesh frame, water drains Water is squeezed out and the paper is dried Iron rollers make the paper smooth Input Used paper Garbage Output Large rolls of paper Discuss other closed loop systems with students. Feedback Manufacturers buy the recycled rolls and make it into products like notebook paper, books, and newspapers If the product is poor, no one buys it
