Microsoft Word Assignment 1 Day Lesson Plan Unit 1 Microsoft Word Assignment 1 Day Lesson Plan

Assignment Description Using Microsoft Word, create a 1 day lesson plan in a table. You can make up the particulars; I am more interested in the formatting than the content specifics. You can use the lesson planning format on the example posted on Blackboard under “Course Documents\Unit 1 Docs”, or utilize one you may be using at your school or district. Your completed document must contain the following elements: Irregular sized text boxes (as opposed to evenly distributed table cells – see rows 1 & 2 on the sample where cell widths are different) Half-inch (.5) margins all around “Fill” color in some sections of cells A line of thicker width used as a separator line between two sections of the table Vertical text in at least one column A footer with the path to the document, right justified and using 8 pt. font A lesson plan on a topic of your choosing, but it should include a description of the elements contained in the sample provided The slides that follow depict and describe how to complete each element Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Setting Page Margins 1) Select “Page Layout” Tab from Ribbon 2) Set top, bottom, left & right margins to 0.5” Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Select “Insert” Tab from Ribbon Inserting Table Select “Insert” Tab from Ribbon Drag mouse pointer to highlight a 2x8 table; preview will appear on document Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Adjusting Cells Place cursor over cell divider lines, then click and drag them to set the cell widths and heights Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Merging Cells 2) Drag cursor (holding left button down) across the top row to highlight the two cells, then right click on the highlighted cells and click “merge cells”. Do the same for the second line. This will allow you to divide them differently in the next step. 1) Adjust your cells until you have one narrow column on the left, and eight rows across that resemble the format on the sample. Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Split each row into 3 columns, then adjust as needed Splitting Cells After merging the top two rows, right click on each and select “Split Cells” Split each row into 3 columns, then adjust as needed Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Merging Cells Vertically 1) Adjust each row after splitting cells to create the pattern shown (note, you will want to adjust the top row before splitting the second row to keep column adjustments independent) 2) Use the same process to merge cells vertically. The right three cells highlighted are being merged to create a cell with vertical text (see sample) Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551

Changing Text Direction 1) Right click on the merged cell and select “Text Direction” 2) Click on the vertical text orientation Prepared by K. Howard for EDUC 551
