St John Plessington Catholic College Year 6 Induction Day

In 17 days, a once in a lifetime event begins: The London 2012 Olympics It will see over 10,000 athletes from all over the world come together to compete in 26 Olympic Sports Even though all these athletes come from different parts of the world, they all have something in common THE OLYMPIC VALUES

Excellence Friendship Equality Courage Determination Respect Inspiration

Friendship

The Olympic and Paralympic Athletes will make lots of new friends Their new friends may be from different countries and speak different languages

Respect

The athletes respect their opponents at the games Even though they are competing against each other, all athletes demonstrate fair play

Excellence

Excellence is about how to give your best, on the field of play Excellence is about taking part and making progress, not about how good you are at the start

Determination

Athletes are very determined and try very hard to do their best. It is much easier to give up than it is to carry on with something that is difficult

Courage

Olympians and Paralympians show a lot of courage Many of the events require them to push their bodies to the limit and eliminate any fear

Equality

Every athlete has the right to be treated fairly and equally Paralympians are outstanding athletes

Inspiration

Olympians and Paralympians have been inspired by others and today they can inspire us as we begin our journey at SJP

As we begin our journey at SJP, help us to remember the values that we bring from all our different primary schools to our new Yr 7 family.

We will be friends with others and make them feel welcome Friendship

We will be respected for who we are and what we have to offer.

We will work hard together so that everyone will be able to use their unique gifts and talents Excellence

We won’t give up when things are not so easy , we will support each other Determination

Sometimes things might not be easy to do, we will help everyone Courage

Everyone in our Yr 7 family is equal and will be listened to Equality

When somebody struggles, we will give them a helping hand Inspiration

We now listen to the Word of God. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Has your light shined today?
