Outline of Semi-shield & Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling 조 직 도 (Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling are also the same methods as that of Semi-shield.) Semi-shield method is to minimize noise, dust, the ground subsidence, traffic difficulties and others caused by the existing open-excavation method for making sure of safety of civil infrastructure and support facilities such as upper sewerage, electricity, communication, gas pipe, airport, train and so on. Early in development, open-shield manpower excavation method had been used but, to apply for the soft ground and an increase of sill’s construction and to cope with difficult construction work, mechanical excavation method has been developed and improved so that the semi-shield method of a Mud-injection earth pressure balance type has been widely supplied. The semi-shield method of a Water-injection earth pressure balance type also has recently been used because of demerits of Mud-injection earth pressure balance type which were expensive costs of PLANT facility and work space for separating injected mud-water and soil.

2. Characteristics of Semi-shield method & Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling (Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling are also the same methods as that of Semi-shield.) Long distance propulsion can be applied without equipments of middle bases. Problems with the press of a propulsion pipe created in composite soil can be solved by automatic injection equipment of lublicator for soil. Construction work of long distance and tunnel curve can be precisely carried out with automatic measurement equipment. Minimize the ground displacement Minimize traffic difficulties and environmental damage Applicable to various kinds of soil Construction period can be shortened with high propulsion speed. Relatively small sizes of starting work shaft and arrival work shaft

3. Types of Semi-shield method & Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling 조 직 도 (Micro-shield/Micro-tunnelling are also the same methods as that of Semi-shield.) 3-1. Mud-injection earth pressure balance type Reinforcement support wall is constructed in front of shield machine and then by injecting Mud-water into the blind end sealed up and pressing it, it can be rapidly moved to soil discharge device with seeking safety of the blind end, moved out to the ground through a pipe together with the soil excavated by a rotating cutter. PLANT on the ground separates injected mud-water from the soil, and separated mud-water is reused for construction work while the soil is discharged.

Water-injection earth pressure balance type This method is to propel shield with keeping a safety blind end by using the soil which was cut with a rotating cutter device depending on propulsion of shield and moved into cutter chamber. Only a moderate quantity of soil is discharged continually both through the machinery for soil discharge of screw type installed in cutting chamber and through machinery for soil discharge, such as slide gate or rotary feeder and others installed in shaft of just that machinery.

조 직 도 5. Outline of HDD method As a kind of horizontal propulsion methods, this is the method of tunnelling through the ground surface-to-ground surface without vertical work shaft. After fixing Bit on the end of pipe, the ground is punched and at this time, high pressure water is sprayed into the pipe. The service water used at this moment is to compound materials of bentonite or gel component.
