Distinguishing Marks of a Spirit-Filled Church

What are the distinguishing marks of the Lord’s church?

“Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for remission do sins and you shall receive the gift the a Holy Spirit”

Church refers to people and not buildings or location The church lies at the very heart of God’s eternal purpose of it God’s purpose is to build the church to be a redeemed people for His own glory What does a Spirit-Filled church look like?

Learning Church The early church was a learning church They were devoted to the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship Receiving the “gift of the Holy Spirit” came from receiving the word gladly

The apostles not only taught but they performed “many signs and wonders” (2:43) The purpose of a sign was to confirm in the teaching John 20:30-31 We submit to the same teaching today by learning from the Bible

Caring Church Spirit-Filled converts not only continued in the teaching but they continued in the fellowship The Greek word for “fellowship” is “koinonia” It means to what we have in common

What do we have in common together? We share in what we have received We have participated in repentance, confession, and baptism We have received the “gift of the Holy Spirit” This fellowship is because of Jesus Christ

Worshiping Church The Spirit-Filled converts worshiped together They were devoted to the “breaking of the bread and the prayers” (2:42) The definite article shows the specific acts of worship Their devotion was with their worship to God Do you think members of the early church had attendance problems?

The marks of a Spirit-Filled life is biblical faith, loving fellowship, and devoted worship
