Unit 8 Motivation & Emotion PROJECT BASED LEARNING

OBJECTIVE: Students will create products that will compare and contrast several theories about motivation and emotion. Students will demonstrate their understanding via technology. PURPOSE: Students will benefit from taking ownership of their learning. In addition, students will get a chance to show off their creativity while being exposed to the classroom student -centered approach. (20 formal points) Group: group project (3 members per group) no more! DUE DATE: BDAY – 2/8 (FRIDAY) ADAY – 2/7 (THURSDAY) Unit 8 Test : BDAY – 2/8 (FRIDAY) ADAY – 2/7 (THRUSDAY)

Introduction Step 1: create a google document that can be shared with your group members (make sure you use your school email). This is for your group task at the end. Step 2: Fill out the google form ( you may not change your group after you submit this form) please make sure you choose wisely. I will NOT settle any disputes and you all will receive the same grade. *only one person needs to submit form Google form (ALSO, POSTED UNDER CLASSROOM ANNOUNCMENTS)

Motivation- TASK Step 1: Every group member is required to complete the guided notes “Motivation notes organizer” page on a SEPERATE sheet of paper. (must be handwritten). Step 2: Every group member is required to complete the “motivation in your life” assignment. Must be handwritten on poster. (In class task) Step 3: Every group member is required to complete “Motivation review and reading.” Must be handwritten. Copy questions or print out pdf and staple the two.

Emotion - TASK Step 1: Every group member is required to complete the guided notes “Emotion notes organizer” page on a SEPERATE sheet of paper. (must be handwritten). Step 2: Every group member is required to complete “Emotion theories of emotion chart.” Must be handwritten. Step 3: 17 I Can See It All Over Your Face_Article Questions: Answer questions by reading the article. Must be handwritten. Copy questions or print out pdf and staple the two.

Group - TASK - Choose 1 out of 3 Create 3 minute youtube video which highlights critical information regarding ANOREXIA NERVOSA and BULIMIA NERVOSA. Everyone in the group must be assigned a role. Details to include: (does not need to be in order) Eating disorder warning signs (differences between the two) Red flags for early identification of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa General Guidelines and guidelines for family members and friends for approaching a person with an eating disorder General information regarding the eating disorders You are not limited to only these two Resources (you can find more): https://www.webmd.com/ https://www.psychologytoday.com/us Ideas or thoughts to consider: You can create a video using images with a voice over or music with writing. You can create a video using a talk show/news/TED TALK format. You can create a collage of pictures and or scenes from movies or shows with content that follows You may use a script such as (google doc) while participating in the assignment. (Please print these scripts out to be submitted). If you have another idea, let me know and I’m sure it will be okay.

Group - TASK - Choose 1 out of 3 Create A PICTURE COLLAGE on BIG tri-fold poster board. You are required to have at least 9 pictures, three from each person (try to find/take pictures that portray different non-verbal cues). No matter if you have a group of 2 or just 1 ( I need 9 pictures overall). Details to include: Specific nonverbal indicators with explanations for a person(s) non verbal communication. This may include; smiling, eyes rolling, smirks, crossed arms, invasion of personal space, unusual posture, eye contact (or lack of it), etc. Summarize how the non verbal behaviors exhibited by each picture determines or explains an underlying meaning (give a brief story line on why they are exhibiting these non-verbal cues). In addition, each person in the group will need to explain how their partners pictures (non-verbal cues) affect our subconscious. In other words, what do you observe about each other’s non-verbal cues. For example: Maybe write the true meaning under the picture Then, your partner could put a sticky note beside the picture with their name explaining what they observed using the non-verbal communication, indicated in the picture.

Group - TASK - Choose 1 out of 3 Create a storyboard of several images that describe each component within each theory of emotion. If you personalize (story and images of you and your group members) the storyboard you can recieve extra points. Similar to your theories of emotion chart (emotion task- step 2) , you will need to add images that create a story. Make sure to be very deliberate when identifying each part of the theories (make it obvious). You will need several images per theory. You may also create a video. Theories of emotion: Common Sense James-Lange Cannon-Bard Schachter-Singer “Two Factor”
