Anti-hyperglycemic effect of Paxherbal Diarth and Bitter tea on streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats BY TUNDE A. OWOLABI PAX HERBAL CLINIC AND RESEARCH LABORATORIES @ EDO STATE POLYTECHNIC INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM. USEN, Edo State. 21st Dec, 2018

BACKGROUND Plants constitute a source of novel chemical compounds which are of potential use in medicine and other applications (NNMDA, 2009).

Herbal drugs are widely prescribed, even when their biological ingredients are not known, due to their effectiveness, fewer side effects and low cost (Kumar et al., 2010)

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is an important public health problem in developing countries. It is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose level associated with discharge of glucose in urine3.

Diarth, and Bitter tea are polyherbal formulations use in the treatment of diabetes in Pax herbal clinic and research laboratories.

Objectives To investigate the effect of Paxherbal Diarth and Diatea on blood glucose level in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced hyperglycemic rats

Materials and methods: Paxherbal Diarth and Bitter tea

Animal grouping

Group 1: negative control, Group 2: diabetic control (Streptozotocin (50 mg/kg, i.v), Group 3, Group 4, Group 5, Group 6 Group 7: positive control (glibenclamide)

Results and discussion: Impressive results obtained, affirming the previous works on the products……retrospective studies on diabetics patients

ACKNOWLEGDEMENT The guide and generosity with knowledge of professor J.I Okogun and professor B.A Ayinde and Rev. fr. Anselm Adodo (the director pax herbal clinic and research laboratories) is well acknowledged, the support and efforts of the management of paxherbal and the entire paxherbal scientist group and the I T students (2018) is undoubtedly worth appraising.
