What do you need to do this time round? 9 mark exam question: How far did the Weimar Republic recover under Gustav Stresemann in the years 1924-29? Explain your answer. Look at your medal and mission sheet and teacher comments from your last 9 mark question (Treat of Versailles) What are your targets? What do you need to do this time round? A little? Partially? Fully? 9 mark essay question. Encourage students to start identifying the key commands in questions. In this instance “How Far”. Share mark grid with students. Complete for homework if necessary.

League of Nations

What was the League of Nations? Part of all the WW1 peace treaties including Treaty of Versailles. It was the idea of the American President Woodrow Wilson. US Congress stopped them joining. Germany was not allowed to join. Its aim was to manage world peace through economic sanctions and possible military action. Without the USA the League struggled to resolve disputes between bigger powers.

League of Nations

How far did the Weimar Republic recover under Gustav Stresemann in the years 1924-29? Explain your answer (9 marks) Level/Mark What I did…. What I need to do next… LEVEL 1   1 mark 2 marks 3 marks I DESCRIBED ONE point which was relevant to the question; such as the introduction of the Rentenmark to end Hyperinflation or the Dawes Plan. The level of description I included has decided my mark. Basic details are enough to get me 1 or 2 marks. A detailed description will get me 3 marks. OR I listed several points which were relevant to the question but gave little or no explanation about the events or their importance. I need to make sure that I focus more on what the question is asking me to do! Don’t just describe one element of the question - no matter how detailed it is! I need to make sure I include more than just the basic details on each of the events I have identified as relevant to the question. (No shopping list answers!) LEVEL 2 4 marks 5 marks 6 marks I was able to identify one OR more event which was relevant to the question and could EXPLAIN them in some detail. If my answer was awarded 6 marks this means I was also able to make some LINKS between Stresemann’s actions and the recovery of Weimar – although these links may not be fully explained. I need to make sure that I have a clear knowledge and understanding of what kind of links the question is expecting me to make. Planning my answer first next time; perhaps with a mind map where I can visually see links and connections between events people and places, might help me improve my written answer. LEVEL 3 7 marks 8 marks 9 marks I identified several actions which the Gustav Stresemann implemented during the period 1924-1929 and was able to clearly explain how each of these were linked to the recovery of the Weimar Republic. If I got 9 out 9 marks then I was also able to explain how Stresemann’s action might have or did have a negative impact on the Weimar Republic; such as the short term success of the Dawes Plan, but it’s longer term consequences after the Wall Street Crash. If I got 7 or 8 marks then I need to begin thinking about other factors which could be of relevance to the question, such as WHAT ELSE was responsible for Weimar’s recovery or how good were Stresemann’s solutions? If I got 9 marks then I can congratulate myself and use this work to look back to for help with writing my next practice exam question.
