8th Grade Social Studies Units of Study Stone Ages and Early Cultures Mesopotamia Ancient Egypt, India, China, Africa, and Americas 5 major world religions-Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam Ancient Greece Ancient Rome Middle Ages

Questions to ask yourself before taking honors social studies Do I have a good grade in social studies? Do I have a good English grade? Am I good at reading and writing? Do I like doing projects? Do I work independently and turn in assignments on time without prompting from adults? Am I responsible and organized? Do I have excellent attendance? Do I make-up missed work? Would I enjoy the units of study covered in 8th grade social studies? Do I want to take honors social studies? Why?

What to expect in honors social studies. Increased and more rigorous reading. Heavily focused on writing. Thinking outside the box. Increased homework and student responsibility. More rigorous tests and quizzes. Project based learning that will require work at home and a commitment to attend culminating project presentations which may be after school.
