Try It The Invention Process: Step 5 Test Your Invention

Step 5: Try It 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 In this lesson, you are going to learn how to complete the fifth step in the invention process, TRY IT, by testing your invention.

Bridgehampton, New York, Just Right Pajamas Oliver S. Bridgehampton, New York, The only way to know if an invention works is to test it! Tests will show you what needs to be fixed or changed to make your invention better.   In past ePals Invent It Contests, students like you have tested their prototypes in many ways. 5 year old Oliver tested his “just right pajama” prototype by sleeping in them for a night to see if they kept him cool! Test Your Prototype

Test Your Prototype Moving Platform Student Team Canada A Canadian team of student inventors tested their moving platform by seeing if it could carry the weight of school supplies Test Your Prototype

Usefulness Durability Mechanics Safety Types of Testing To test your invention, start by thinking about the types of testing you need to do. You need to test the mechanics. Then try the mechanics to see if the invention actually works to solve the problem.   Do you want to see if people like your invention or think it’s useful? If so, perhaps a poll of friends and family is the right test. Show them your prototype and record their responses. Do you want to test for durability? Then develop tests that will help you understand if the invention will withstand use. Do you want to test for safety? Then, try the invention and see if there are any risks associated with using your product.

Conduct Your Test iMuffs Nick L. Mississippi, USA Get started right now by deciding on the right test (or tests) for your invention , go for it! Conduct your tests and document the results with notes in your inventor’s notebook, photos, and/or videos so you have a record of what you learned with the testing.

That’s the 5th Step in the Invention Process. Can’t wait to see your test results! Now you know how to complete step five of the invention process: TRY IT…..by testing your prototype and recording the results!
