Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) Committee Update MIL-STD-882E Implementation May 2012 “DoD Standard Practice for System Safety” Efforts focused on 25 November 2013 Interim DoDI 5000.02 DoD Acquisition Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) IPT provides ESOH content Changes include: Requires programs to use the methodology in MIL-STD-882E (vice D) for management of ESOH risks Streamlines documentation, eliminating redundancy Document planning in Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) Document results of analyses in Programmatic ESOH Evaluation (PESHE) at Milestones B and C and Full Rate Production review Working issue of Interim DoDI 5000.02 language that can be misunderstood to mean that software programs without a hardware component not required to perform software system safety analyses The chart has the updated information on our committee meeting this afternoon. As noted, the meeting is going to focus on the industry comments that we got on the proposed change to MIL-STD-882D. The committee will begin the process of preparing the industry inputs for submittal to the DoD Acquisition ESOH IPT for adjudication. I want to stress the importance of the industry-government partnership required to have effective ESOH risk management as part of the Systems Engineering process. MIL-STD-882D, the DoD Standard Practice for System Safety, is the tool used to formalize the partnership effort on individual programs/contracts. The next chart gives a numerical summary of the industry comments. As of: 13 Aug 08
