LIMITED GOVERNMENT Framers afraid of Monarchy Gave GOV specific powers –Articles 1-3 Gave GOV restrictions on limits of individual freedoms-Bill of Rights Made it so GOV is not above the law-Rule of Law

POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY PEOPLE ARE THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF POWER AND AUTHORITY

SEPARATION OF POWERS Prevented the rise of tyranny 3 branches of GOV No branch could dominate the other

Checks and Balances Each branch independent But also has power over the others
