OPSS Older Peoples Support Service HSS Home Support Service Building Cleaning Transport, Cleaning and Catering Service Local Environmental Services

u Supporting People funding introduced in 2002 – bringing together a number of funding sources. u Housing services surveyed residents of sheltered accommodation, determined that older people felt that a cleaning service would help maintain their independence. u We provided a service specification for a cleaning service, and it was agreed that this service would receive SP funding. How Service Developed

Between 2002 and 2008 u Evolution of cleaning service. u Developments within other council services. u Change in funding criteria. u Audit commission supporting people inspection (of SP team). u Home cleaning service review. u Excellent customer feedback.

Next Steps u SP Team very keen to see development of a floating Support Service for Older People. u Worked collaboratively to develop a new service to meet recognised needs in Gateshead. u Matched SP funding criteria.

u Over 50 years old u Gateshead resident u In need of the support the service can offer. u In receipt of Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit u Eligible for fairer charging assessment. OPSS Eligibility

New Home Support Service u Decision taken to offer a paid-for housework service across the board. u No eligibility criteria. u Service Users set the specification within the time they choose to have. u Frequency of visits set by Service Users.
