Welcome to back to school night! Honors Math

Homework a. Students will start getting simple solutions next week. They will have one page due by Friday. This may change. b. If a student’s homework reads: Challenge Practice, it is a homework that uses the basic skills learned and practiced in class in a more enriched way. c. I check homework every day, homework is worth a total of __25_____ points. Every time a student misses a homework, I deduct ___5___ points.

Projects a. Large Unit projects These projects will be given class time but also will require additional time at home. Homework will be adjusted during this period since we will be beginning a new unit during the project time periods on occasion.

Student Binders a. I have students using binders this year so that they can continue use of them throughout there years in Honors math. It keeps things organized so with the large amount of graphing that occurs throughout the year they can have a mix of both types of papers to stay neat and clear in their note taking. b. I will not be holding on to tests and quizzes. Students are responsible for putting their tests and quizzes in their binder and holding onto them so they can review and study throughout the year. c. Students will have a graded assignments paper that I will need parents to sign and then the student show me no later than two days after they receive the grade. d. Every semester we will clean out the binders, I suggest that you make a file at home of important notes and for tests and quizzes so they still can reference them throughout the year if needed.

Absences a. If a student is absent from illness or suddenly, I will give them the work missed on the day they return and they will have two days to complete it and check over it with me. b. If a student misses on a test or quiz day, they will make it up on the day they return.

Tests and Quizzes a. Students will have quizzes this year. After each Chapter or Unit depending on the class we will have a test, I will then assign a “challenge” or mini project that will be due by the next test day. b. On my website in the upcoming weeks I will start posting test dates and project dates in a large advance. These are all tentative and can be pushed back due to Masses, assemblies, snow days in the winter, etc. Please do not hold me to each date. They will never be moved up, unless as a class we decide we can handle it, but may be pushed back. I just like students to have a heads up so they never feel an assignment is just thrown at them without adequate preparation and time.

Website a. My page on the school website is under classrooms, then Math honors. I have homework for the week posted on there and will soon have test dates and assignment dates posted under the weekly homework for each class. Once we get into google classroom this may change, however I will go over the new procedures multiple times with the students until they get used to it.

Extra help and info. a. If your child feels they are falling behind or need extra help, My extra help day is Tuesday. On Tuesdays I will be at school until 2:45 for any extra help. 8. Please keep in mind that in honors math, we follow the same curriculum and standards as the other classes. The main difference is the length of time spent on each lesson and the application. We focus a lot more on application and enrichment activities and skills.
