Standard Grade Chemistry Topic 3 Nuclide Notation Standard Grade Chemistry Topic 3

Learning outcomes Success criteria Understand what is meant by “atomic number”. You can define the term atomic number. You can state the atomic number of an element given its name, or name the element given its atomic number. Understand what is meant by “mass number”. You can define the term mass number. You can state which particles in an atom contribute to the mass number.

Learning outcomes Success criteria Be able to use nuclide notation to determine information about the structure of an atom. From nuclide notation, you can identify the atomic number and mass number of an atom. You can determine the number of protons, electrons and neutrons an atom has from nuclide notation. Given information about protons, neutrons and electrons, you can draw the nuclide symbol for an atom.
