Unit: Water and the Atmosphere Lesson 3: Water Underground Essential Questions: 1.) How does water move underground? 2.) How do people use groundwater?

How does water move underground? Water trickles down between the particles of soil and through cracks and spaces in layers of rock.

Permeable materials allow water to pass through. Impermeable materials make it difficult for water to pass through.

The water table is the top of the saturated zone The water table is the top of the saturated zone. It divides this zone from the unsaturated zone.

How do people use groundwater? Aquifers can supply people with water by using a well and a pump.
