SUMMER MATH CURSE 2018 By: Josie Halper

Problem 1: My chickens lay an average of 15 eggs a day. My brother ( Lucas ) and I take turns selling a dozen eggs. Each dozen costs $3. But every week our family uses about 9 eggs. How much money could each of us make over 11 weeks ?

Problem 2: On weekdays I wake up at 7:00 a.m. 30 min later we have to be at the pool for my brother’s swim practice. 2 hours and 15 min later I have my own swim practice for 45 min long. Straight after I go to my dive practice which is 1 hour long. Then it takes us 15 min to get ready and 15 min to get home. We eat lunch 1 hour and 28 mins later. What time will it be when we eat lunch? ( my dive picture in the newspaper)

Problem 3: On vacation we went from Glenwood Maryland to Moultonborough New Hampshire. We drove through Pennsylvania, New York, and Vermont. Here is the mileage for each state: - Maryland 33 miles - Pennsylvania 249 miles -New York 172 miles -Vermont 50 miles -New Hampshire 122 miles. What state would you be in when you are half way through the drive?

Answer key: Problem 1: Problem 3: 15 eggs x 7 days = 105 eggs every week 105 eggs - 9 eggs used =96 eggs per week 96 eggs/12 = 8 dozen 8 dozen/2 kids = 4 dozen 4 dozen x $3 = $12 each kid earns per week $12 x 11 weeks = $132 in 11 weeks Problem 2: 7:00 a.m. + 30 min=7:30 a.m 7:30 a.m + 2 hours = 9:30 a.m 9:30 a.m + 15 min=9:45 a.m 9:45 a.m + 45 min= 10:30 a.m 10:30 a.m + 1 hour= 11:30 a.m 11:30 a.m +30 min= 12:00 p.m. 12:00 p.m + 1 hour and 28 min=1:28 p.m Problem 3: 33+249+172+50+122= 626 miles 626 miles/ 2 = 313 MD + PA = 282 miles at the end of PA NY distance is then 282 miles to 454 miles and since 313 is in the middle you would be in NY when you are half way.
