American Alligator By Jayden

Physical Characteristics The alligator can be as long as 18 feet. The alligator can weigh 450-600 lbs. The color of the alligator is black.

Life span The alligator can live up to 35-80 years.

Eating Habits/Diet The alligator eats fish, turtles, mammals, and birds. This means the alligator is a carnivore.

Population There are 5 million alligators in the United States and 1.25 million alligators in Florida.

Habitat/ Range Alligators live in swamps and rivers.

Adaptations The alligator’s teeth help it eat its prey. The alligator’s tail helps it hit prey. The alligator’s eyes can see under water.

Fun Facts The alligator was declared the official state reptile in Florida in 1987.

Endangered Because The alligator is endangered because it is hunted for its hide and because of habitat loss.
