Dolphins By Elijah

There are 43 different species of dolphins Dolphins are cetaceans They are members of the same family as whales Dolphins live in all oceans of the planet and even in some important rivers Most dolphins live in the Pelagic Zone

mammals They are marine mammals They give birth to live babies They feed their young with milk They are warm-blooded They need to breathe air mammals

breathing They spend much of their lives under water Dolphins breathe through nostrils located on top of their heads, called blowholes. When the dolphin surfaces, he can blow the old air out of his lungs, creating a plume of spray and suck in fresh air. His blowhole seals immediately after he breathes so that he won’t get water in his lungs. breathing

The food that dolphins eat is different for each species The food that dolphins eat is different for each species. While some dolphins eat fish like herring, cod or mackerel, some others eat squids or other cephalopods. Large dolphins like the Orca can consume up to 500 pounds of fish per day. What it eats

ITS LOOKS The skin color of dolphins is grayish-blue, but it can also be black, white, light gray, blueish and even pink or the combination of those colors.

Dolphin facts Dolphins are very social, living in groups that hunt and even play together. Large pods of dolphins can have 1,000 members or more. Known for their playful behavior, dolphins are highly intelligent. When a dolphin sleeps, only half his brain goes to sleep at any one time. The other half of the brain stays awake and takes care of making sure that he keeps breathing.
