Astronomy ≠ Astrology

Astrology Nonscientific interpretation of stars and planets based on the premise that there is a relationship between astronomical phenomena and events in the human world.

Astronomy The SCIENCE which studies celestial objects (such as stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets and nebulae).

Constellations

Defined A constellation is a specific area of the celestial sphere as defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).

Do you see a warrior? A hunter?

Did you see this?

Example of Constellation

What’s this?

What does this look like?

Zodiac signs No more important to Astronomers than the other 76 Constellations Their uniqueness is only because they exist as an “extension” of the ecliptic plane.

Dates of Aries Name Tropical zodiac (2011) Sidereal IAU Boundari es Solar stay Brightest star Aries 21 March – 20 April 15 April – 15 May 19 April – 13 May 25 days Hamal
