Deism tends to see the universe as a vast machine, created by God but running according to its own laws. God is like a great watchmaker who set the universe in motion, after which it runs like clockwork. Deism holds that God created life, but only through natural processes. Deism rejects the idea of supernatural intervention or miracles. God allows the universe to run entirely on the basis of natural laws. Deism also rejects supernatural revelation, basing its belief in God on reason and observation of the natural world. Deism views Jesus as a great moral teacher but not as divine. Deism emphasizes ethics, focusing on ethical conduct rather than a close relationship to God.

You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had, who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death —even death on a cross! As a result God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow —in heaven and on earth and under the earth— and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
