Looking at living things LIFE PROCESSES Looking at living things

Learning Target All organisms must contain parts to carry out all life functions.

Life Functions MRS GREN M: Movement R: Respiration S: Sensitivity G: Growth R: Reproduction E: Excretion N: Nutrition

Movement All living organisms move to: Find shelter Escape from predators and other danger Find food Find a mate

Respiration The release of energy from glucose or another organic chemical in our cells. This is how living organisms make energy from glucose.

Sensitivity All organisms respond to their environment.

Growth All organisms grow from a baby to an adult. (Could you imagine a baby being born the size of an adult? I don’t think so!!)

Reproduction Making more of ourselves

Excretion Getting rid of the poisonous waste products produced by chemical reactions in our bodies. We do this by breathing out carbon dioxide and urinating.

Nutrition We need materials for: Growth Repair Energy

How do you know “it”s alive? In order to be considered living – the organism must possess all of the life functions (MRS GREN)
