Will Good and Religious People Be Saved? “What Does the Scripture Say?” – The Apostle Paul Romans 4:3; 11:2; Galatians 4:30

Where is the answer found? Not personal feelings or opinions Not what others have said Not religious writings of men But, the word of God

Why is a person lost? Not because he lacks goodness or religion? But, because he is in sin (Eccl. 7:20; Rom. 3;23)

What does not save… Religious works (Mt. 7:21; 23:1-36; Lk. 6:46) Goodness (Mt. 19:16-23) Riches (Lk. 16:19-31)

What does not save… Faith alone (Jn. 12:42-43) Religion alone (Acts 2:5; 8:27; 16:13-14) Ignorance (Acts 3:17)

What does not save… Moral goodness and belief in God (Acts 10:1-3, 34-35, 48; 11:14) Baptism alone (Acts 19:1-6)

What does not save… Honesty and sincerity (Acts 22:16; 23:1; 24:16; 26:9) Hearing truth alone – almost obey (Acts 24:25; 26:28)

What does not save… Religious zeal (Rom. 10:1-3; Gal. 1:13-14; Phil. 3:6) Past salvation (Gal. 5:4; 1 Tim. 4:1; Heb. 12:15)

What saves? Not goodness and religion alone But, obedience to the gospel (2 Thess. 1:8; Heb. 5:9) and faithful living

What saves? Hearing (Eph. 1:13) Believing (Acts 16:31) Repenting (2 Cor. 7:10) Confessing (Rom. 10:9-10) Being baptized (Mk. 16:16) Faithful living (Phil. 2:12)

Will they be saved? No, if their goodness and religion is not found in the NT Yes, if there goodness and religion is found in the NT

3 Lessons for Today Goodness and religion alone is not enough to be saved Keep sharing the gospel Guard our own thinking
