Lesson #17: Adding Integers

Rules: (+) + (+) = + 5 + 3 = 8 (-) + (-) = - -5 + -3 = -8 (+) + (+) = + Add two positives = positive 5 + 3 = 8 (-) + (-) = - Add two negative = negative -5 + -3 = -8

Adding Positive and Negative Integers (-) + (+) = The answer will be the sign of the greatest face value, then subtract the numbers (+) + (-) = (-5) + (+2) = 5 > 2 therefore the answer will be negative because 5 is negative (-5) + (+2) = - 3

Examples: (-4) + (-1) = (+2) + (+5) = (-1) + (+4) = (-2) + (-3) = (+4) + (-4) = (-2) + (+5) = (-15) + (-2) = (-3) + (+1) = (0) + (+3) =
