Honduras is located in the heart of Central America and is surrounded by high tropical mountains, which provide the country with a variety of different climates. These climates and elevations support the growth of coffee beans. Its north is the Caribbean Sea, offering a beautiful beach, the Bay Islands are surrounded by the world’s second largest coral reef. Honduras has exotic animals, a lot of parks and protected areas, tropical nature, biological diversity, a vast rain forest, many birds and mountains to climb. Honduras is famous for its archaeology and is known for its old Mayan archaeological sites. Click here to see a parade in Honduras

The Garifuna culture is a hybrid of Caribbean cultures in its fishing practices, and African in its oral traditions, dance, and music, with a language that combines Arawak, French, Yoruba, Bantu, Swahili, English, and Spanish. The Garifuna’s origins date back to 1635 when an English slave ship wrecked off the coast of St. Vincent, and, resisting slavery, the Africans on board began a new life with the local Arawak Indians. Generations later, the entrenched English shipped the Garifuna to the island of Roatan, off the coast of Honduras. Many spread out to the coasts of Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras. ***Remember, we already learned about the Garafuna people in Guatemala. You can review them if you go to our presentation on Guatemala.
