Given 3x/Year (Grades 1 to 12) Computer-Adaptive, Formative Assessment Standards-Based  Reading  and Math Given 3x/Year (Grades 1 to 12) Provides Baseline Data - Progress Monitoring STAR Overview: Computer Adaptative:  The first administration of STAR usually begins with questions one or two grades below grade placement.  On the student's second and subsequent test administrations, STAR looks at the student's previous STAR scores.

FIVE DOMAINS TESTED Understanding Author's Craft Covers the understanding and analysis of an author’s use of language and literary devices to create certain effects. Analyzing Argument and Evaluating Data Covers the recognition, analysis, and evaluation of argument in persuasive, editorial, and academic writing. Word Knowledge and Skills Covers knowledge and understanding of vocabulary as well as the ability to use the strategies. Comprehension Strategies and Constructing Meaning Covers strategies such as self-monitoring, making predictions, drawing conclusions, and using organizational structure of text to improve understanding. Analyzing Literary Text Covers the exploration of plot, setting, character, theme, and point of view in literary text, as well as the characteristics of different genres. STAR Overview: Percentile Rank (PR) Expresses student's ability relative to the scores of other students of a similar age. Ranges from 1–99 ​% STAR Overview: Grade Equivalency (GE) Comparison of student performance to grade level norms Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD)​   Defines the readability range from which students should be selecting books to ensure sufficient comprehension. Instructional Reading Level (IRL) Grade level of material with which students can most effectively be taught. Scaled Score (SS) ​ Students' Raw Score​ Ranges from 0 to 1400

Student Growth Percentile (SGP) Compares a student’s growth from one period to the next with that of his or her academic peers (same-grade students with a similar scaled score history).  SGPs range from 1–99%  Lower numbers show lower growth; higher numbers indicate higher growth. A student with an SGP of 35% grew faster than 35% of academic peers.   An SGP of 35% or higher suggests growth. STAR Overview:

STAR Administration: Students' Usernames and Passwords F Cheat Sheet:  Students' usernames are their first initial first four digits of their last name.  If they have trouble logging on, have them add a number to their last name (example: 1, 2, 3, 4...).  If they are still having trouble logging on, chances are that they entered their information incorrectly.

How to Stop and Resume a test An unfinished test can only be resumed within eight calendar days of the interruption.  The student would have needed to pause the test before exiting it. When they log back in and click on the assessment tile they will need to click resume. If they just closed out of the assessment without pausing it they would need to start over from the beginning when they go back into the site. If they simply shut their laptop lid, they would have gotten timed out of each question and each question it times out for would be counted as incorrect. The test results would show on reports run.
