(4 marks) One way in which the Civil Rights Acts of the 1960s helped to end racial discrimination was because the 1964 Civil Rights Act ended social discrimination. It made it illegal for local governments to racially discriminate in either housing or employment meaning everyone had equal opportunities. Another way was through the 1965 Voting Rights Act. This aimed at ending racial discrimination in the access to democracy. It allowed the federal government to ensure that all voting was taking place according to the law and removed literacy tests giving greater access to all.
