WeatheringAndErosion Weathering And Erosion. The Different Types of Weathering There are many different types of weathering. Here are a few: Oxidation.

Agents of Erosion.
Work and Energy  Energy is the ability to do work or cause change.  Two Types of Energy: Potential Energy = energy that is stored in an object due to.
Wind. Wind is different than water when it comes to erosion. Why? Wind can carry small materials uphill/upslope.
Streams and Drainage Systems The most important source of moving water.
Physical Weathering Physical weathering breaks rocks into smaller pieces but does not alter their chemical compositions. Examples- Abrasion caused by particles.

What do you see in this picture?
What is Erosion and How is it Different than Weathering  Weathering is the breaking down of rock into smaller pieces.  Erosion is the MOVEMENT of these.
As you know from Chapter 2, weathering is the breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces. So what is erosion? Erosion is the movement of the broken or weathered.
Erosion and Deposition Do Now 1.What are the four main agents of physical weathering? 2.Give two examples of chemical weathering. 3.What factors influence.

Integrating Technology: Earth and Space Science Mr. Singh

The transport of weathered materials… EROSION- The transport of weathered materials…

Major Erosive Agents: RUNNING WATER GLACIERS WIND OCEAN CURRENTS AND WAVES MASS WASTING (GRAVITY!)

The velocity changes in the S-shaped curves called MEANDERS The velocity changes in the S-shaped curves called MEANDERS. Fastest on the outside of the curve – erosion Slowest on the inside of the curve - deposition

Water Velocity determines the size particle that can be moved via suspension and bed load

Wind Erosion Sediment – sand or smaller Arid regions or ocean coastlines 2 types: 1. Deflation – lowers the land 2. Sandblasting and Abrasion

Sandblasting and Abrasion Wind can only lift sand to about 1 meter high - results in “Mushroom Rock” Frosted or Pitted sediments – rocks with flat sides
