THE LAWS RELATIONSHIP WITH GRACE

Deuteronomy 5:1-5 Moses summoned all Israel and said: Hear, Israel, the decrees and laws I declare in your hearing today. Learn them and be sure to follow them.  2 The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb.

Deuteronomy 5:1-5 3 It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us,  with all of us who are alive here today.  4 The Lord spoke to you face to face  out of the fire on the mountain.  5 (At that time I stood between the Lord and you to declare to you the word of the Lord, because you were afraid of the fire and did not go up the mountain.) And he said:

who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. Exodus 20 2 “I am the Lord your God,  who brought you out of Egypt,  out of the land of slavery. 3 “You shall have no other gods before me.

4 “You shall not make for yourself Exodus 20 4 “You shall not make for yourself an image  in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, Exodus 20 7 “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Exodus 20 8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,  10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work.

so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20 12 “Honor your father and your mother,  so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

Exodus 20 13 “You shall not murder.

Exodus 20 14 “You shall not commit adultery.

Exodus 20 15 “You shall not steal.

Exodus 20 16 “You shall not give false testimony  against your neighbor.

Exodus 20 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

“The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord” Judges 3:7,12 / 4:1 / 6:1 / 8:33 / 10:6 / 13:1 “The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord”

“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.” Judges 17:6 / 21:25 “In those days Israel had no king;  everyone did as they saw fit.”

Galatians 3:24 “the law was our guardian until Christ came”

The Law only breeds two things: Defeat if you’re honest Hypocrisy if you’re not.

“I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law. Romans 7:7 “I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.

“14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, Romans 7:14-17 “14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,  sold as a slave to sin.  15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

“16 And if I do what I do not want to do, Romans 7:14-17 “16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.  17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.”

A GOSPEL that does not confront sin is not the gospel of Jesus Christ.
