SMP 3: Construct viable argument and critique reasoning of others Blended Objective Strategies for SMP 3 Level Of Questioning SMP 3 will be the umbrella from which we’ll be looking at 3 components. Writing a blended objective Discussing the level of questioning Strategies and procedures that address SMP 3

Create Your Lesson Objective (Content) + (Language) + (Assessment) = Focused Lesson Objective Step #1: Creating a blended objective.

Create Your Lesson Objectives The What… Math content The How… Assessment With language skills The Evidence… of learning and thinking Using academic language The What remains the same. It’s the math that you’ll be getting through. These are the standards. The How is what’s new. An objective should now contain something which builds upon a language skill and has an assessment component. The assessment will be informal, used as something to provide data to guide instruction.

(Content) + (Language) + (Assessment) 7th Grade Unit #7 Sample Objectives: Students will find the area of a circle given any component of a circle. They will explain their reasoning in writing and be able to share out their answer. Here is a example on how to write a blended objective based on a standard. Go over: First portion has the math. The second portion has the assessment with a language skill. This is an objective that will last more than one day. (Content) + (Language) + (Assessment)

(Content) + (Language) + (Assessment) 7th Grade Unit #7 Additional Example: Students can solve application based problems involving area and circumference. Students can justify their answers verbally and will defend their solution in small groups. Here is Another example on how to write a blended objective based on a standard. Go over: First portion has the math. The second portion has the assessment with a language skill. This is an objective that will last more than one day. (Content) + (Language) + (Assessment)
