Here’s the summary of what happened in Chapter 2 Most of the ranch people seem nice enough Who is Candy? How is he helpful? Candy is helpful by telling George and Lennie about the other Ranch hands, this allows the reader to know some background information on the other characters. How is the theme of how people do not accept people who are different shown in this chapter? Candy tells George and Lennie about what happened last Christmas, crooks (The black man) was invited into the bunk house at Christmas and one of the ranchers picked a fight with him for no reason.

What is Curley like? Short height wise (has a complex about his height) Light weight boxer He is the BULLY of the ranch; George is scared Curley will pick a fight with Lennie He acts like he is better than everyone since he is the boss’s son He has curly hair

What is Curley’s wife like? She is a flirt—she flirts with the other ranch hands Candy says that she is a “tramp” and a “tart” She gives the guys the “eye”—she is checking them out Curley and his wife have just been married (for two weeks) Has curly hair “sausage “ curls Nasal tone to her voice She is MADE UP ---she wears a lot of make-up She wants attention –she is not getting enough attention from Curley

Curley’s wife continued... Try to find the colour that is associated with Curley’s wife. What does that colour symbolize?

What is the boss like? He can be both mean and nice (buys the guys Christmas’ gifts) He is unsure about George and Lennie’s friendship—he thinks George might be taking advantage of Lennie (by taking his pay)

What happened in Weed? How are the characters being developed? To know the characters and the setting of the novel so far. To understand how the relationships in the story are being developed between the characters. To be able to reflect on the similarities and differences between the characters.
