Objective TO MAKE THE MOST OUT OF THE IOT BY COLLABORATING FOR THE BENEFIT OF… INDUSTRY… MEMBERS… MARKETS… USERS… … … ALL!

Thank you to the organizer for the set-up!!!

Thank you all for your contribution!!!

Running the discussion Session split in 2 parts: 16h00 – 17h30 Wednesday 09h00 – 10h30 Thursday … + tour of the UNITED Nations!!! Part 1: Small introduction to the session and process Part 2: following from session 1, ending with key take aways

Questions for session 1 What about the IoT standardization landscape – what’s your views? our level of responsibility, commitment from GSC members? How would we like the IoT standardization landscape to be What can we do? What do we want to do?

Addressing different domains Different semantic models coming from different sectors No one addressing joining views, yet… Each domain will have its own picture of the landscape for IoT Can we help the integration? How? Need to better understand the others Get their contribution direct ISO/IEC’s role? GSC SDO’s role?

Starting from commonalities, moving on oneM2M signaled as the “logical” starting point Many GSC already members, why just many? oneM2M members working on parallel initiatives? Some pillars in oneM2M An architecture Security by default Important players not in oneM2M E.g. Internet companies, users…

The questions driving to our conclusions were: Under our responsibility as GSC members What could SDOs/ISO/IEC role to get closer to other domains? What are the 3 things you would change/improve in oneM2M… or else?

Agreed approach Come out with concrete, actionable proposals Gather the proposals and try to build an action plan Share, discuss, fine tune and sign-off the plan Execute on the plan and follow on actions

Some potential, high level actions (i) Identify specific domains and address their associations and players Build a clear value proposition, from the domains’ viewpoint Marketing oneM2M standards to the sectors From their perspective On their turf! Watch out the naming of initiatives and partnerships!!!

Some potential, high level actions (ii) SDOs to play a leading role addressing different domains Build on key values, properly market our initiative consistently Also approach ISO, IEC and UN agencies to access to other domains (e.g. WHO) Stronger marketing effort Aim for thought leadership Visibility in key events – not just ICT driven Reconsider scope M2M vs IoT – what are we aiming at?

First set of actions Draft a more detailed action plan and circulate for discussion and fine tuning Get consensus on final plan and circulate among GSC members for them to sign on Follow up on implementation of actions Responsible for drafting initial plan: ETSI

Do we agree? Yes, no, maybe…

My own views… Worked out well Cannot abuse the format Needs a lot of energy Preparation is key!
