FDSN backbone station Current definition FEDERATION Backbone NETWORK STATION A subset of two hundred fifty stations chosen on the basis of hardware standards (VBB or BB and VLP, 3-component, dynamic range greater than 100db), noise characteristics, geographical location, and status (installed or installation imminent). There seems to be a consensus that FDSN backbone stations are recognized by seismological community as subset of globally distributed high quality broadband seismographic stations.
FDSN backbone station The current definition of the FDSN backbone station is distributed to WG-I mailing list. It will be discussed in WG-I mailing list if the definition should be amended to expand/contract a number of backbone stations at the latest by the next federation meeting.
Station Inventory Station inventory will not be updated anymore. Member network should keep link to each data center in the station XML.
Station Book There is a software to maintain station information which may applicable to update FDSN station book. It should be checked to introduce this for this purpose by the next meeting.
