Components of the Universe By Ms. Nguyen Components of the Universe

Solar System Composed of the Sun, planets, satellites or moons, asteroids, meteoroids, and comets.

Stars Begins as gas clouds and ends as cinders. Different colors tell how long they can live for. A Super Giant Star is called the Black Hole, where nothing can escape.

Galaxies Made of stars and objects orbiting those starts. The name of the one we live in is the Milky Way. Our neighbor is the Andromeda.

Universe Made of millions of galaxies and a lot of empty space.

Constellations Imaginary star pictures Named for animals or mythological characters

Well Known Constellations Big dipper- Most well known Part of Ursa Major (Big Bear) North Star Used as point of reference for navigators Total of 88 recognized constellations

The Night Sky We don’t see the same constellations in the sky all the time Because the earth is moving (rotating and revolving), and stars don’t move Sample Constellations: Connecting the Dots

The Zodiac Of the 88 constellations, 12 are special Astronomy= the study of the universe Astrology= the study of the position of objects in the universe and their affect on human behavior Zodiac constellations wrap around Earth like a belt

Constellations Myths Student pick the constellation and present the myth Myths
