8/24/ 16 Lesson 21-1 Notes: What is a robot? Ms. Walsh Science 6

Lesson 21-1:Vocabulary Key Terms *Know and Define them* Robot- A machine that is able to get information from its surroundings and do physical work, such as moving or manipulating objects Robotics- The technology dealing with the design, construction, and operations of robots Industrial Robot- an automatically robot that can handle several products or items at a time and can be programmed to complete different tasks. Autonomous Robot- a robot that acts without direct supervision. It can “decide” for itself.

Why were robots designed or created? Robots were designed to do jobs that were too…………. DANGEROUS BORING REPETITIVE DELICATE FOR HUMANS TO DO

What sparked interest in creating actual robots? Fictional Robots sparked interest in creating actual robots. Robot development depends on the development of technologies, such as computers. Designers are working to increase robots’ problem-solving abilities.

How are robots used in Industry? Most robots used in industry are modeled after the human arm and hand. Robots perform many kinds of exploration including space exploration. Rovers are remote-controlled by a human operator

How are robots used in medicine and in home? They are used in medicine to……. Carry Supplies Act as patients for medical students As a tool link doctors to patients

How are robots used in medicine and in home? Robotic Surgeons, guided by human hands, participate in operations. These robotic surgeons are known to leave smaller scars, reduce hospital stay, and patients have less pain. Robots at home may provide entertainment, perform simple household chores, or monitor a person’s health.
