Langston Hughes “Dreams” TPCASTT

TITLE Look at the title of the poem Why is this the title? What do you think the poem might be about? “Dreams” I think the poem might be about dreams. Dreams could mean what you have when you are asleep, or they could be goals.

Paraphrase Dreams Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow Dreams Hold on to your dreams For when they are gone Life is like an injured bird That cannot fly. Hold tightly to your dreams For when dreams go away Life is like an empty field Frozen with snow

Connotation (Poetic Devices) Positive? Negative? Title – Look at it again Dreams Was your first analysis right? Yes and No The poem is about dreams, but now we know that the speaker is talking about goals or ambitions.
