What ended the Depression?

Social Security system pays out pensions to older people.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) It watches labor unions. Mediates Disputes

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) It insures bank deposits. If a bank closes, the FDIC repays people the money they lost— up to 250,000.

An agency called the Securities and Exchange Commission watches the stock market. It sets rules for how to trade stock fairly. It also makes sure that companies follow those rules.

The Agriculture Price Support program also still exists. It tries to control what crops farmers grow. It pays farmers to raise crops for domestic use rather than for export.

While FDR provided Americans hope other nations turned to strong leadership to help combat the effects of their depression. Some became dictators.
