Gold Spanish conquistadores hoped to find gold and jewels they could take back to their queen. Spanish often used local Native Americans to help them search for riches. The explorers looked throughout Texas for riches, but did not find any.

Glory Being the first Europeans in the New World, Spain claimed the lands as New Spain and began to colonize them Colonize-to take over, settle, and rule lands from afar More land = More money = More power!!

God Spain in 1500s was primarily Roman Catholic Spanish Friars came along with the conquistadors to convert the Native people to Catholicism They set up churches and missions throughout Texas to do this
