History In the Forbidden City Constructed in 1420 under the rule of Ming emperor Yongle Called the Altar of Heaven and Earth Symbolizes relationship between Earth and Heaven Emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would go here to worship and pray for a good harvest In 1530, Emperor Jiajing decided decided to make separate the sacrifices to Earth and to Heaven, so he constructed the Circular Mound Altar for sacrifices specifically to Heaven The Altar of Heaven and Earth then became called the Temple of Heaven Was reconstructed in 1749 by Qing emperors Qianlong and Guangxu
