Trade unionism in ESTONIA EAKL – Estonian Trade Union Confederation Re-established in April 1990 (first TUC in 1919) TALO - Estonian Employees’ Unions’ Confederation Split from the EAKL in 1993-1994

Membership EAKL representing 19 affiliated unions whose membership is drawn from employees in the public and private sectors The number of members belonging to the affiliated unions of EAKL is c 38 000 Industry, transport Health care In the second largest organisation TALO belongs about 18 000 members It is approximately 10 % of labors who are organized

Challenges To represent the interests of workers in wage negotiation To defend members in employment related issues To increase representativeness and membership To guarantee flexicurity in the labour market To reluctance the state/government to engage in social dialogue To stand up for the social security of workers

International relations EAKL has taken a big step forward in international work by its active participation in the work of both the ETUC and the ITUC EAKL has been represented in many different EU bodies, including the EESC, the Bilbao Agency, the Dublin Foundation, CEDEFOP and many advisory committees of the European Commission
