THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS DO ALL THINGS IN THE NAME OF THE LORD JESUS Cards 61-65 To do a thing in the name of the Lord Jesus is to do it for Him and as He directs. Do it by His authority; do it as His servant, for His honor and glory. He is the only mediator between God and man. Does any one believe if Christ were here in person as we are, that He would go into any human society and do things as they require? We are required to give and do all we do as the servants of God. Jesus when on earth did nothing save what God required. He had no will of His own, or wish or desires to do anything save the will of God. If we are His disciples and do His will, we will not enter or remain in any society that Jesus did not appoint or command. God and His church are entitled to the whole undivided service of man in carrying out the will of God. God cannot reward for what a man does as a member of another body, and to divide His time and service with that of others is to impair the value of all the service rendered. God will not accept a divided or mutilated service. God demands our whole time and service in His church. We need it all there to make us loyal and true citizens of that kingdom.

DO ALL THINGS IN What ever way we want The way that makes us feel good The name of the Lord Jesus To do all things in the name of the Lord is to do it for Who? We should do all things by whose authority? We should do all things for whose honor and glory? Who is the mediator between God and man? We are required to give and do all we do as the servants of who? When Jesus was on earth did He do anything except what God required? If we are Jesus’ disciples do we remain in any society Jesus did not appoint? Can we go to one church one day and to another church the next time? Does God want our whole undivided service to carry out His will? Can God reward for what a man does as a member of another body? Will God accept a divided service? God demands our whole time and service in His what?

BOOKS DEALING WITH THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST 1ST & 2ND THESSALONIANS The two letters to the church at Thessalonica are among the earliest of Paul’s epistles; only Galatians is earlier. On the second missionary tour, Paul came to Thessalonica after his ministry, imprisonment, and release from jail at Philippi. Thessalonica was the capital city of the province of Macedonia and was ruled by local officials called “politarchs”. Paul’s evangelistic work began in the local synagogue of the Jews. In these letters Paul tries to clear up some misconceptions about the second coming of Christ. Although some converts were made at Thessalonica, the Jewish opposition stopped Paul’s ministry; his opponents incited a riot and brought false charges against him before the city authorities. Having been at Thessalonica for only a short time, Paul was forced to move on to Berea by the circumstances.

BOOKS DEALING WITH THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST Matthew and Mark 1st and 2nd Thessalonians Act and Romans On his second missionary tour, Paul came to what city? T________________was the capital city of the province of Macedonia. In these letters Paul tried to clear up confusion about what? What did the mean people in Thessalonica do to Paul? What did the above force Paul to do?

1ST THESSALONIANS CONCERS Paul’s love for faithful brethren The second coming of Christ 1st Thessalonians provides a touching glimpse of Paul as a preacher. Paul visited Thessalonica at a troubled time in his ministry, while enemies were tailing him from town to town. First Thessalonians is our earliest record of the life of a Christian community. Paul wrote this letter after receiving a mostly positive report (from Timothy) on the Thessalonians’ spiritual health. He rejoiced at the good news, but also showed concern over the church’s problems. As you read I Thessalonians, notice the issues that Paul addresses: Christians were raising questions about Jesus’ return to earth and were disagreeing on matters of morality. But mainly, look for signs of Paul’s relationship to the church at Thessalonica.

1st THESSALONIANS CONCERNS A. Paul’s love for faithful brethren B. The second coming of Christ C. Both the above Paul visited Thessalonica at a troubled time in his ministry, while his enemies doing what? Did Paul rejoice at the good news received from Timothy? What did he show concern over?—the c______________’s problems.. What was the issue that Christians were raising questions about---Jesus’ return to e____________?

2nd THESSALONIANS CONCERNS The second epistle is rather severe in tone. The Thessalonians were disregarding the explicit teachings Paul had given them. Some were living idle lives and expecting the immediate return of the Lord. The rebukes in this letter are sharp and harsh. Paul, in this letter gives a great deal of attention to the New Testament doctrine of the second coming of Christ. Second Thessalonians had many parallels to its companion letter. The Christians in Thessalonians were still struggling with major problems, and each of the three chapters of this book concerns one of them. Chapter 1 gives encouragement to Christians who were undergoing persecution for their faith. Chapter 2 attacks head-on the false teaching about the day of the Lord. Rumors about the day of the Lord had caused great excitement and speculation, leading to the practical errors Paul addresses in chapter 3. Paul’s specific words about what must happen before the day of the Lord make this letter a key part of New Testament prophecy. The prophecy passages aren’t self-explanatory, and may require a Bible reference book for understanding. Although 2nd Thessalonians is Paul’s shortest letter to a church, it contains four of his prayers. Note especially his concern for the Thessalonians as expressed in the prayers. 2ND THESSALONIANS Timothy getting a second letter from Paul. This letter to the Thessalonians tells of Paul’s teaching concerning unfaithful brethren and the second coming of Christ

2nd THESSALONIANS CONCERNS Paul’s teaching concerning unfaithful brethren The second coming of Christ Both the above Was Paul’s second epistle severe in tone? Were the Thessalonians disregarding the teachings Paul had given them? The rebukes in this letter are s_________ and h_________?
