How to Build a Fire By: Brad Leonard AUGUST 23, 2014

Clear excess ash from the fire pit.

Prepare the fire pit area.

Get water into a fire bucket or pot.

Find some dead twigs. If they are brown on the inside, use them for tinder and kindling, if not, scrap them.

Dead flowers or leaves work for tinder as well, like these…

…or these. Though, these are better for kindling than tinder.

Dead tree bark works well for tinder.

Large branches must also be used as fuel.

Smaller parts can be broken off and used as kindling.

Cut the large branches by getting a tree with a “V-branch”, and use it as a lever.

A – Tinder and Kindling, B – Small Fuel, C – Medium Fuel, D – Large Fuel

Add the tinder and kindling first

Next add the small fuel.

Then you get the fire started before adding the medium and large fuel.

Lastly, put in the medium fuel…

…and the large fuel

Enjoy!
