Fashion of

18th-century fashion was strongly influenced by the French court. During the second part of the century the rigidity, dignity and seriousness of the women's dresses gave way to more flowing lines, decorated with bows and ruffles. Skirts were distended sideways by means of an under-structure called a panier' (basket).

The womens dress was very elaborate and restricting. Their dress affected the way they walked, sat or moved her arms. Getting into ones clothing was a difficult task that involved more than one person. Women wore a variety of colors and fabrics for their stockings and dresses. Dresses and undergarments were cut in a style to show off the wearers figure in a modest way.

From the 1740s to the 1790s dress makers had a field day with embellishments. The wider the dress and the more layered the ruffles the better.

Sleeves were typically fitted and ended at the elbow at which point started many layers of ruffle and lace. Further pieces of lace were even attached to the sleeve of the undergarment to add even more layer. In addition, from the neckline in the back of the dress hung long pleated pieces of fabric for added elegance. The style of sleeves changed many times throughout the eighteenth Century.

The hairstyles The hairstyles were very complicated. It was worn thick, long, and luxuriant in many different styles. Hats were an important part of the outfit, also they were interested in wigs. Hairstyles

Hats The most important female head covering of the 18th century was the hat. It was worn by women of all classes and stations almost all the time, except for formal evening occasions such as opera or balls.

In the eighteenth century not only women who interested in elegance, but also men were interested in clothes, wig, hats and shoes.

High heels shoes Shaped high heels were worn by men and women of the upper classes. Materials for shoes and dresses were rich and splendid and included brocades, embroidered silks and painted leathers. Large showy buckles had become a significant feature of the shoes.
