Front of Parthenon. Above columns were gold shields from Alexander the Great.

View of Parthenon and Erectheum from the side.

The columns were built using blocks of marble in donut shapes placed on a support in the middle. Most of the roof was blown off by gunpowder ignited by a cannon ball from the Venetian ships that were attacking the Turks.
