The Overflow Relief Cap - ORC Anti-infiltration overflow-relief device

The Problem… Infiltration of stormwater into sewer drains has long been recognised as a problem for sewerage treatment infrastructure This can lead to major impact on the environment when systems fail As much as 40% of the infiltration is attributed to non conforming overflow relief gullies - ORG’s

Conventional ORG Installation ORG allowing water ingress

The Solution… Overflow Relief Cap – ORC The ORC prevents water from entering the sewer at the household connection The cap is used instead of the open grate that is currently fitted on ORG’s

Typical ORC device installation ORC device sealing against Typical ORC device installation ORC device sealing against water ingress

Product Description Moulded PVC-U anti-infiltration overflow relief device Nominal size DN100 Upon installation in an overflow (relief) gully, to prevent the infiltration of surface waters to the sewerage and drainage systems and provide for the overflow relief of any surcharge of sewerage and drainage systems

Venting How does the ORC work? The device has an upper chamber designed to allow air to be drawn in during normal conditions Venting

If the area surrounding the ORG becomes inundated with water the float in the ORC chamber will rise blocking further water entry. This prevents water from entering the sewer. Sealing

In the event of a surcharge the ORC will pop out of the pipe allowing effluent to run out (as grates do now) Overflow

Features and Benefits The cap instead of a grate currently fitted on ORG’s will keep pests and vermin from entering the system at the point Cap is designed with special vents to allow fixtures connected to it to discharge normally Reduces sewerage processing costs by preventing rainwater infiltration in the sewerage system

Reduces the need for capital expenditure on additional sewerage storage and pumping capacity Decreases the possibility of untreated sewerage discharges Minimises the likelihood of Pumping Stations being fined by the EPA for releasing untreated sewerage discharge into the water ways

Features and Benefits Builders & Plumbers Quick and easy to install The ORC is designed to be installed into the normal ORG The ORC can be easily retrofitted to an existing ORG

Features and Benefits Water Authorities The cap will prevent water from entering the sewer – saving unnecessary water processing costs In the event of a surcharge the ORC will pop out of the pipe allowing effluent to run out (as grates do now) Reduces likelihood of unprocessed discharges of sewerage to outfall during floods

Green Credentials The ORC reduces processing costs by preventing rain water infiltration into the sewerage system It reduces the need for capital expenditure on additional storage and pumping capacity It decreased the possibility of untreated sewerage discharges

Compliances and Standards Awarded Watermark 60012 for compliance with Australian Technical Specification ATS 5200.501-2011 Note: The Australian designed Over Relief Cap is patented (patent application PCT/AU2008/0002340)
