The STOP Signal

WALK AWAY

TALK: report problem to adults Adults will ask you what the problem is They will ask you if you said “stop” They will ask you if you “walked away” calmly

When someone else uses STOP WALK TALK …even when you don’t think you did anything wrong…even if you think the other student is just trying to get you in trouble… Stop what you are doing Take a deep breath and count to three Go on with your day

How will staff respond STOP WALK TALK Adults will thank you for coming to them They will ask you what the problem is They will ask if you said “stop” They will ask if you “walked away” calmly They will practice STOP WALK TALK

TALK vs. Tattle Talking Tattling When you tried to solve the problem yourself and have used “stop” and “walk” step first: Did you request “stop”? Did you “walk” away? Tattling When you do not use the “stop” and “walk” steps before “talking” to an adult When your goal is to get the other person in trouble

STOP WALK TALK Group Practice Scenario: John says something rude to Sally. Scenario: Joey steals the ball that Fred is playing with.
