Presentation transcript:

What are the arguments for and against Euthanasia?

Write down some reasons why Euthanasia is justifiable Arguments FOR Euthanasia

Arguments For Euthanasia Ensures a good death

Ensures death with dignity

Saves valuable medical resources

Respects the wishes of the patient

Helps families under pressure

Religious Arguments For Euthanasia God gave me free will so I can choose to end my life if I want to

I don’t have any quality of life anymore and God wouldn’t want that

Jesus said, “Love your neighbour” so it would be loving to let a suffering person end their life

God told humans to, “rule over everything” so that gives me control over my own life and death

Arguments AGAINST Euthanasia

Arguments Against Euthanasia Active euthanasia is murder

Doctors take the Hippocratic oath to preserve life

Patients are supposed to trust their doctors not fear them

Palliative care and hospices are good alternatives to euthanasia

Euthanasia puts pressure on the weak and vulnerable in our society

Religious Arguments Against Euthanasia The Sanctity of Life – all life is sacred (holy, special, important) and should be preserved at all costs

There is a little bit of God in everyone and we should not destroy that

God has a purpose in everything, even suffering

Because of medical advancements we can ease the pain of people who are suffering. We don’t need euthanasia
