Reported Lyme Disease Cases by Year United States, 1982-2002 5,000 10,000 15,000 20,000 25,000 1982 1984 1986 1988 1990 1992 1994 1996 1998 2000 2002 Year Cases Overall picture is not good. Number of cases continues to increase, with particularly large increase last year when number of cases jumped from ~ 17,000 to >23,000. Portion of this trend is due to greater awareness and better reporting of cases that were always there, but also evidence of a true increase in endemic areas as well as spread to new areas.

Reported Cases of Lyme Disease by Year, United States, 1995-2012 Probable cases* Confirmed cases *National Surveillance case definition revised in 2008 to include probable cases; details at http://www.cdc.gov/ncphi/disss/nndss/casedef/lyme_disease_2008.htm
