MEIOSIS 9 Biology
Meiosis Gamete cell division Reduction division: Only occurs in gametes, or sex cells Ex. Egg and sperm Reduction division: Reduces number of chromosomes by half, resulting in haploid cells
Gamete cells:
Meiosis Meiosis has 2 phases: Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I, Telophase I, Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II, Telophase II Phases are the same as mitosis, but the cells divide twice Result= half the chromosomes- haploid

Meiosis and Mitosis Meiosis Mitosis Only in gamete cells Results in half the number of chromosomes Has 2 phases Results in 4 haploid cells Happens in somatic (body) cells Hair, skin, lung, liver Retains original number of chromosomes Has 1 phase Results in 1 daughter cell with chromosome number identical to parent
